Abstract

For a long time, birth control, family planning and population control has been a controversial subject among Islamic or non-Islamic scholars. Birth control and family planning can be viewed from economic, demographic, health perspective. This article discusses the issue of birth control and family planning from an Islamic perspective. Islamic scholars are divided on the legitimacy of birth control. In this article, I briefly review the arguments of both sides in view of Islamic jurisprudence and other Islamic sources to see their validity. Then I provide a conclusion as to the issue from the Islamic point of view.
